150ps Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Ok have done a search on the forum and found only half a story, have been told by a mechanic it’s a common problem and need to get a new / recon box. When decelerating in 5th there is a whine from the gearbox, pushing the clutch pedal down makes the noise disappear, it doesn't do it in any other gear. Does anyone know if it is a bearing on its way out, and can I use Molyslip Gearbox Protector with a change of new oil to see if the noise go's. Quote
gregers Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 think the 1st thing to do is try an oil change and see if it decreases the noise?.gota be the cheapest option 1st. Quote
swc7 Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 mine does it too, '03 plate 115ps. 102k miles,, i bought the car last summer with the dreaded clutch pedal on the floor, i had a leak from the gearbox from the push in seal that is visible from the wheel arch. it was pennies to replace the seal but i had lost over 50% of my oil... its not cheap either mine was 2.5L and vw wanted £50 for 3L. dingbro have the same stuff FEBI make and i got it for £30. i dont know if my 5th gear whined before i changed the clutch to a single flywheel but it does now.. i got 1800 miles from my first clutch, i have fitted a valeo clutch now and its starting to go as well but i have done over 2500 miles so waiting to see what happens next. 5 gear whine isnt a worry for me though as i hardly get into 5th. so maybe my loss of oil didnt help mine. Russats Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Think your self lucky I can't even get it in 5th. I have to jump from 4th to 6th lol Quote
